Affirmations for Health     up      previous  next
Q: Can I use affirmations to reinforce my programming to correct a health problem?

A: The most important thing is visualization and imagination. We only use words to help us make better mental pictures. The only exception is to use programming statements when you are correcting problems you can only feel but cannot visualize, like headaches.

The 3-Scenes Technique (and in the BLS, the Mirror of the Mind) is used to program to correct problems.

When Mr. Silva spoke about using words to help create better mental pictures, what he meant was something like this:

If you are programming to correct a health problem, then you can imagine your doctor expressing surprise and satisfaction at the rapid progress you are making: "You are doing great, that's what happens when you follow my instructors...."

You can also imagine friends expressing their happiness for you: "It is so good to see you full of energy again, and able to do the things you used to do...."

Statement like that can serve two purposes:

They can help you create the kind of mental pictures and mental movies that will strengthen your programming, and...

They can also help you bring about feelings of success and health and energy, and this is also an important part of your programming.

Mr. Silva emphasized the importance of getting feelings involved. That is why he recommended that we always review a past success before we program our new project. Recalling a feeling of success will help you to be just as successful again, and even more successful.

When you think about your "project" - it is no longer a problem once you are working on it, it is a project - and when you are talking with other people, the best thing to say is: "I am doing better and better."

The only statement we have to reinforce that programming is the "Better and better" statement. It has been programmed at level over and over, at a level where we program to correct problem, where we have greater control.

So when somebody asks how you are doing, you answer, "Better and better thank you. And how are you?"

If you say that you are perfectly healthy (or that the diseased organ is perfectly healthy, as you suggest in your free lessons) and you know you are not, that just calls attention to the problem.

That is something that Emile Coue realized, and that's why he advised people to use the Better and better statement - when he had them at level (his "autosuggestion") he programmed that this would reinforce the programming he was doing for them. He knew that telling them to imagine themselves in perfect health wouldn't work, it would only remind them that they weren't.

When you say, "Every day in every way I am getting better, better, and better," you don't think about the problem. You think about the correction image that you created when you did your programming.

We are the ones who understand how the mind works, thanks to Jose Silva's 22 years of scientific research. The people who sell programs using "affirmations" haven't done the scientific research, they haven't proven themselves the way we have, and they don't know what they are talking about.

They may say that you are programming your "subconscious" when you use their so-called "affirmations." But that's not true; you are aware - conscious - that you are making the statement. It's not beneath (sub) your conscious awareness.

Besides, we teach people how to use the subconscious consciously. Mr. Silva considered that to be the greatest accomplishment of his scientific research.

When you are able to use the subconscious consciously, he said, then it is no longer "sub" - or beneath - consciousness, so you have to have a new name for it.

He named it the "inner conscious level."

If it were to influence the subconscious, what would it do? If you say that the organ is perfectly healthy, then there is no need for the brain to do anything - no corrections are necessary for a health organ.

If it is not healthy... if it is diseased... then that is a problem that needs to be corrected. It is not perfectly healthy.

But since you have programmed it, it is improving - it is getting better... and better.

That's why we use the Better and better statement.

Sometimes people contact us wanting to know why their programming isn't working, and we find out that they are making statements about being perfectly healthy - even while they are trying to correct abnormalities.

This doesn't make sense, and we tell them to stop using the so-called "affirmations" immediately, and to program the way we teach them to.

One of the most important things to remember is to teach - and use - the techniques exactly the way Mr. Silva wrote them.

He studied every word. He had 2 dictionaries on his desk, and he used them to make sure he understood exactly what every word meant.

We should not leave anything out of a technique.

We should not add anything to the technique.

Use it the way Jose Silva designed it, and it will work for you.
