I don't know whether I told you but I have a condition called congenital hyperplasia, which to cut a long story short has meant that I have been on steroids since I was diagnosed aged two. It appears that my immune system is suppressed and I am picking up 'bugs' from my children which are resulting in many trips to the doctor, lots of antibiotics and a lack of energy.
Everything has slowed down, although I am glad to say that I do feel on the mend.
I am sorry that I haven't been in touch recently, but I guessed your intuition told you things weren't quite the norm. I am trying not to overdo things. Any advice re: alternative approaches would be appeciated, although I can't stop my steroids without a gradual reduction and I should let my consultant know.

Wow... hang in there. I know how you feel... really. 'Cause I feel the same way. That's what this so-called post polio fatigue does... it is like chronic fatigue syndrome. Only thing that surprises me is that I have not had but two sore throats in the last six years, since this stuff got really bad! I have no idea why, I would have thought I'd get all kinds of bugs, with my energy level so low. Maybe it is because all stress is bad for me, so getting frustrated is very bad for me, so I have decided not to let anything bother me.
Standard recommendation, of course, is to go to level for 15 minutes, three times a day. Go to level and stay for 15 minutes, preferably in the morning when you first get up. I do the Long Relax, by myself (no tape). Sometimes slow, sometimes very fast... you know: "Scalp... vibration... tingling... warmth... release and relax completely..." I do the first part.... vibration... tingling... warmth... while inhaling, the as I exhale, I relax. I do this all the way down my body. Other times I take it slow and easy, and use most of the words that are in the script.
When things are going badly, I may do it two or three times in a day. Sometimes I do it and then do it again right away. Depends on how I feel.
Then program, at your level, to correct anything. The "Awake Control Technique" is a good model that has helped me lesses the fatigue.
Actually, on the new UltraMind Self-Management Program we have some audio from Mr. Silva with a modifiction... for when you are "tired and exhausted," rather than "drowsy and sleepy." In fact, he specifically said, "This is not for when you are drowsy and sleepy, it is for when you are tired and exhausted."
It works great. At your level, identify the problem:
"I am tired and exhausted, I feel tired and exhausted."
The solution: "I don't want to be tired and exhausted, I don't want to feel tired and exhausted, I want to have plenty of energy and feel great."
Then make a plan: "In a moment I am going to count from 1 to 5, and at the count of 5 I will open my eyes, I will be wide awake, feeling fine and in perfect health, I will not be tired and exhausted, I will not feel tired and exhausted, I will have all the energy that I need to do what I need to do."
Then work your plan: Count from 1 to 5. At 3, pause and remind yourself that, "At the count of 5 I will open my eyes, I will be wide awake, feeling fine and in perfect health, I will not be tired and exhausted, I will not feel tired and exhausted, I will have all the energy that I need to do what I need to do."
When you get to 5, open your eyes, and use an "assumptive close," that is, act like (and feel like) you are less fatigued and have more energy. Even if you don't feel like it, "just pretend" - "act as-if" you do. Feel as-if you have plenty of energy... or at least more.
In the beginning, I hesitated to use this, or the adaption of the Headache Control Technique for the pain, because I didn't want to mask symptoms and perhaps over-do it and cause myself even more problems. So I wanted until I could think clearly enough that I was sure I was approaching it with the attitude that I was treating... and correcting... "the cause of the problem." Not just the symptoms, but the cause.
It worked!
The next thing, of course, is the MentalVideo Technique. Get a video crew together (that's what I do now... why should I operate the camera myself? I'd rather be the Director of Photography.) Then go out and photograph the problem, video tape what you are doing about it, and also the outcome that you want. Mentally of course.
And go to sleep with the intention of delivering the videos to your tutor on the other side while you sleep.
Then for the next three days, look for indications of how to proceed.
The "indications" will be objective... physical. And if you are not sure, look for additional indications. That makes it scientifically valid: Objective results, and replication.
It was only after my condition got extremely bad in late 1996 that the message got through to the other side, and they sent me an article on post polio syndrome, which pointed me to some post polio web sites, where I found information that probably saved my life. It was that bad.
We had a technique, back in the olden days, that we could use to seek help from higher intelligence after we'd already tried everything we could think of... I don't know why I never used it for my tiredness! Anyway, I've got good enough alpha functioning that when the situation became critical, the message got through even without a technique.
Now we have the MentalVideo, which we can (and are urged to) use every night.
Every night.
So use it... we need you, higher intelligence needs you to do the work that's been assigned to you, so the help is there, and you will get it.
Do your part... 15 minutes at level, three times a day; and use the MentalVideo Technique. And program, as indicated above. And check everything with your doctor... sometimes they actually figure something out (although their standard approach always seems to be to recommend drugs).
If you let the doctors know you are serious, they will monitor your condition as you try alternative methods. Do what they do: lots of trial-and-error. Whatever works, do more of it.
I'll program for you of course. Keep me posted... let me know how you are doing so I can adjust my programming, based on the results.
Oh, one other thing that I did, that may also be a good idea for you: I realized that in order to do my job, the first thing that was necessary was to take care of my body. Without it, I cannot do my job.
So that became my first priority... to take care of my body.
Not my normal way of doing things, but I didn't do it for myself or for my own benefit; I did it because it was essential if I were to do my job; in fact, it was the only way I could do my job... to first take care of my body. So it was top priority on the job, and for the job.
